We here describe Dianella lignosa R.L.Barrett & M.D.Barrett (Asphodelaceae) as a new species from the Kimberley region of Western Australia, previously included under longifolia R.Br. The is readily identifiable by its thick, woody lateral rhizomes, and also differs D. in leaf floral characters.
